Japanese cinema is in mourning. On Monday September 14, Ashina Sei’s body was found lifeless in her apartment by her brother. According to initial findings from Tokyo police, the 36-year-old actress committed suicide, Variety reports. While she left no note and no word to explain her gesture, it was her family who sounded the alert on Sunday, September 13, while the star no longer answered their calls or messages.
A tragedy for Japanese cinema, of which Ashina Sei had been the figure for several years. Born in 1983 in Fukushima, the actress arrived with her family in Tokyo at the age of 8. A teenager with dreams in her head, she started modeling before landing her first role in the Shiawase no Shippo series, The Tail of Happiness.
