New manslaughter by firearm in the United States. A two year old child killed his mother who was in the middle of a Zoom meeting with a bullet to the head on August 11, 2021. While playing at home, the latter found a pistol in a Paw Patrol backpack (a children’s cartoon), which had been stored there by his father. The gun was loaded without the safety catch.
The father of the child, a 22-year-old American named Veondre Avery, was logically arrested in his state of Florida for not putting his gun out of reach of his child. He is currently in custody on charges of negligent manslaughter.
The victim, Shamaya Lynn, died instantly. The other participants in the Zoom meeting, obviously shocked by the images, directly called for help. “One of the girls has passed out, she is bleeding. Her camera is on and her baby is crying at the back of the room,” one of his colleagues described by telephone to the operation of the emergency services.
More and more common tragedies
Police officers arrived at the scene discovered the body of the father trying to revive his partner in their apartment in Altamonte Springs, a town north of Orlando.
This type of drama is more and more common in the United States. “Each year in the United States, hundreds of children access loaded and unsecured guns and shoot involuntarily,” according to a recent report from Everytown For Gun Safety, an association campaigning for better regulation of firearms.
